Just placed my order for a Vararam Intake! Should be here mid next week! I'm excited, it looks like a great piece with a lot of effort put into designing it. Hoping to see some good gains
Did you buy the IAT relocate harness to prevent the heatsoak that plagues our cars? Also you should consider modifying the tray so it seals when the hood is closed. Most people use some glue/double sided tape of some sort and pipe insulation...
I am planning on modifying the tray, However I was unaware that the relocation doesnt come in the kit >_< Is that a must have for the install? Or can I install and then add that later?
And did you like yours?
Its not included with the kit, so you didnt get jipped or anything... its something that most people add to their CAI's to eliminate/reduce the heat soaking issues that cause the computer to pull timing when its not really needed. For instance the computer will think its 130+ degree outside cause your heat soaked under the hood. Therefore the computer pulls the timing... thus reducing power. You will really notice the difference on a hot day...
You can buy a kit here with the breakout harness and the new Omega thermostat sensor together or you can build your own. Read info/link below if you want to build your own.
You will need the following to build your own IAT Relocate Harness/Kit
It seems like an easy plug and play mod thats cheap and effective! Looks like I'll be doing that next after I install the Vararam. Thanks for the heads up!
Nice, PM incoming sir... I was just about to list it up the other day after I finished porting it... but I cant find my USB cable to upload the pictures from my camera to the internet. I am going today to pick one up though so you can see the exact intake manifold I am talking about. For now I will include pictures of the many others I have ported.
This also reminds me I need to finish my damn pictures/banners for sponsorship here... gotta send those off to ROBO asap.
PM sent... FYI the intake manifold I have right now ready to ship is the stage2/advanced ported version. IMO its really the only way to go with these intake manifolds... I rarely have requests to port them without all the internal plenum work.
I've got one waiting to go on as well. Just curious - why didn't you put the IAT sensor inside the filter?
I've got some Heatshield sticky heat shield stuff to insulate mine and I'm planning to seal it to the hood as well, probably using rubber pipe insulation.

Couple things, If you are planning on insulating the box, test fit it first, because it is a VERY tight fit and the last thing you want is rub on any belts or pulleys. Also make sure you ziptie up the radiator hoses and wiring that used to be attached to the shroud so that they don't run into the fan directly below them.
My original plan was to put the IAT sensor inside the filter, but the breakout harness shipped after I got it installed. So it was partially laziness, and partially because Drilling into the plastic of the filter would leave shavings inside prone to getting sucked into the motor. It didn't seem worth the effort to me because the temps would read the same.
Good luck with the install thought! I used a heavy duty razor blade cutter to trim the shroud, make sure you go down far enough or the hood won't close. Also, disconnect your battery while installing the Vararam to reset your ECU. It will let the computer instantly adjust to the filter instead of slowly realizing something changed. You will feel the power gain on your first drive and it is very satisfying
You can just feel it breathe!
