exhaust/bumper part out question
I have happened upon an '06 goat that was in a front end accident. The rear half is intact and I asked the shop if they would be willing to part out. They said yes but that if I want the rear bumper I have to buy the exhaust as well. I want to convert my '04 to a dual exhaust set up but I don't know where to begin really. I'm also not sure about the exhaust. From the quick glance I got today it looked stock with tips but I don't know enough to say for sure. The tips didn't look high dollar and the bumper looks after market. How do I identify this exhaust and determine if it is worth the money to get it all? The shop does not know the mods. I'm definitely gonna snag the cold air intake (it is completely intact that part I am very familiar with and 100% certain of). I wanted the seats too but he wants $1500 for all four so out of my budget right now. I'm also hoping for the window motor/regulator on the drivers side but we will see. Any advice?

Just get the entire exhaust off the car if it's cheap enough. Mids, Resonator, Mufflers, and Tips. If you get the newer bumper, everything will bolt right up.
If you just get the bumper, then you'll need to custom fab something from the back-end up of your '04 exhaust. Unless you buy an aftermarket exhaust for an '05/'06, then it will still bolt right up.
I like my '04 bumper, so I'm cutting that. I have an '05/'06 exhaust that needs to have an axle-back fab'd up. You can just buy performance mufflers for the newer setup, as well. It IS a 2.5" system.
Others will chime in with different suggestions, but it depends on what you're going for.

Well let's just say I like being heard and my main motivation is the dual exhaust look. I like it but I'm torn because part of me says save up for a real system. However that will be a loooong time coming if I do. I don't know what the exhaust looks like cat forward because the engine is tweaked really bad from the impact. I know there are no headers on the setup. I would expect getting manifold back but there is no telling without getting on a lift.

From what I understand, to convert a 2004 to the 2005-6 rear bumper, you need the bumper cover as well as the styrofoam piece that goes under it. Other than that, I think it is a straight swap. As far as hanging a 2005-6 exhaust on a 2004, I know you'll have to at least fab some sort of exhaust hangers for the pipe on the passenger side. I don't know if the exhaust hangers on the drivers side match up.

Are they open on the weekends? If so I could probably go over there with you to take a look. $1500 is way off base for GTO seats, low end is about $700 for all four, top end is $1000. If they are in the best of shape he is still $500 too high. Last I looked at 05-06 bumpers they were about $350 for the bumper cover and $150 for the rear insert. If the exhaust is stock it is not worth more than $200.

Yeah. You'd need the welded on the passenger side, or you could buy the JBA hanger.

Robo is right about the styrofoam, as well.
As far as lining up...after it bolts on, it MAY need some tweaking. I'm sure a local muffler shop wouldn't charge too much for lining the pipes up correctly.

Thanks everyone. I thought the seats were awefully high. I offered $500 for all four seats and that's when he told me I was crazy they would go for $1500 on ebay. The more I think about it the more I think I will just hold off. I have a friend that offered me his stock exhaust if I got a bumper and at least I know what I'm getting. The car is parked outside so you don't have to worry about them being open. I think the only thing I'm gonna make an offer for is the driver side door guts, the dash fascia because my baby's previous owner glued some device to it and it damaged the plastic, and the gas cover. I think I may offer for the steering wheel too even though the airbag blew because I'm having some weird electrical issue where when you push the mute the volume only slightly decreases and the volume down makes the volume go up. It is random not always.
