Well, my tires are really in pretty bad shape... they hydroplane horrendously. It really is time to get some new rubber... recommendations for street tires?

I've been extremely pleased with the BFG KDW NT's. I've got 245/40/18's on all four corners.

KDW's are always good, I have the Re-01R's and they stick like gum to a shoe. They don't make them now I think they were replaced by the RE-050R's Even in water I feel confident to drive a little stupid.

Thx; I'll check them out. Best place to acquire? Tirerack? Best place in the Austin area for install? And alignment? Will he ever stop asking questions?

Tirerack and discounttiresdirect.com are good places. The guy that is the bridgestone sponsor at the other forum is my choice. Great guy helped me out with mine.
For instal only NTB in Ceder Park are the only ones that get to touch my tires. They respect the GTO and take good care of it. They didn't even screw up my painted rims.

What about those Eagle F1 tires arent those good for wet weather traction?
I'd put in another vote for the KDW. I had a set before I bought the tires I have now. I'll be going back to them when I get my next round of tires.

Cool. Ordering 'em up! I assume I'll need a slight tweak to my revs/mile due to the slightly different size from stock...

anybody used the good year eagle gt? I am curious how they perform?

You shouldn't have to unless you make a significant change. Going from 245/40R18 to 275/35R18 gets you about the same ouside diameter so your speedo won't be off.
Hell, differences in air pressure in the tire can make more of a difference. Even going from a cold to a warm tire can imact your speedo more than the difference in tire size.

They were pretty good on an RX-8 I drove. Gripped well. They can ride a little rough, but they are an overall good tire.

All I have tries are stockers and Nitto 555's and the Nittos are a great improvment.

fark!!
The 245s rub on my struts. Discount is going to snag a set of 235s to put on now... Thank goodness there is a set local.
For those of you running 245/40R18s... do you have factory struts? (mine were replaced under warranty due to the infamous squeak leak...) Did you have any fitment or interference issues that you addressed with a BFH or other tool?

My 245 40 18 RE's don't rub. I think Mickey21 had the KDWII's on his 06 when he was here and they didn't rub. Sucks that you are having issues man.

Yeah man, unfortunetly if you have 100% stock suspension it's a case by case thing....it could be your struts and springs. When I overhauled the suspension I only had 6,500 miles on the car and my stuts were already shot when we pulled them out.

Back home with the new 235/40 R18s
Wow, the ride quality is significantly better... these are nice tires. Have to test the traction out a bit tomorrow... :D

I had 245/40/18s up front and 265/35/18s out back in nitto555 and they were great. No rubbing. I sold the car and miss it...

Looks like I'm a little late to the party but I'm running 245 RE-050A Pole Positions and they are definitely an improvement over stocks. Don't know if I'd recommend them yet, though. I originally got the RE-960 A/S but they were absolute garbage so the 050s were the only thing in the same price range. Tackled a little wet weather this weekend for the first time and was pleasantly surprised how well these did, especially for being a summer tire.

The KDWs were awesome in the rain. Unfortunately, they seem to break loose far too easily especially leaving after a stop. But maybe that's the increased power and not just the tires...

I'm running BFG KDW2's - 265/35/18 in the back and 235/45/18 in the front.
I couldn't be happier.

Do you need an All-Season tire or a Summer tire?
