Getting ready to bolt up a few things after my 3rd twin disk clutch destroyed itself. I am going to use my Quicktime bellhousing, (approx. 30# in weight) instead of stock to protect my feet. Honestly I don't know how I haven't lost one yet, as this will be the 2'nd stock bell housing I have scattered. I also will be using a Monster Stage 6 Clutch from SNL Performance http://www.snlperformance.com/ with a chromoly flywheel and a G-Force carbon fiber drive shaft from G-Force 1320 https://www.gforce1320.com/. These are this pics I have as of now and I will update as the install goes along.

I have the same bellhousing sitting in my garage floor. Please take tons of picks, I have heard that you have to grind some for proper fitment. I am considering the Monster 6.5 myself.

Yea, I did a test fit and you do have to grind a bit. The only reason from talking to the guy at Quicktime was that the GTO starter sits higher in the housing when bolted to the block. Basically our stock bell housings are not like the f-body style because of starter positioning. I am thinking that if I would have swapped over to an f-body starter it would work without grinding. I will take some pics of what I ground and post it up, but it is a very easy thing to do. I also ground a bit on the driver side to make room for the driver side long tube. All in all a very simple modification and with a little black VHT roll cage paint, you can't see where I ground much at all.

LOL
Because the first thing I'll do is climb under your car and say, "I don't know. I can still see where you had to grind the bellhousing. Shoddy work if you ask me."
In all seriousness, foot protection is a good thing.

Daniel, did you have to use a slave shim on your install? I have a few sets if needed. Figured since you had the exact same setup I might as well ask instead of relying on trial and error.
Thanks for any information you can give. :)

Well I got me a box in the mail yesterday and I proceeded to install it today! Lets just say that if it weren't for the bellhousing this would have been one heck of an easy install. The clutch I chose from Monster Clutch Co. is their Stage 6 with the chromoly flywheel and HD pressure plate. The quality of the parts seemed second to none and fit together beautifully. Monster was nice enough to throw in all new GM flywheel and pressure plate bolts for free. Thanks guys :). On to the pics:
Did I say the bellhousing was a PITA to install? Just figured I would throw that in... now on to the show
Here is the Box everything arrived in. The packaging was excellent, and was probably the best I have ever seen from any aftermarket manufacturer to get me my parts all in one piece.
http://www.gastiresoil.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=84&stc=1&d=1249181713
Here are a couple pics of what arrived in the package. As you can see in the box are even more boxes and packaging. This stuff was packaged like no other. I have used some super high end clutches and none of them had anything like this.

To start off the pilot bearing must be pulled and the supplied bearing installed. I won't bore you with that so lets get on to the good stuff. Here is the chromoly flywheel installed and cleaned with brake cleaner. I used the supplied (for free ;)) GM fasteners in a star like pattern that was provided as installation instructions in the kit using a three set torque down sequence of 15-37-74ft/lbs using GM locktite w/sealant. The flywheel is of high quality and was not much heavier than my last aluminum one.

Here is the clutch disc. It is a six puck design and the pad material is of sintered iron. It should be one grabby SOB once it is broken in. I used the supplied alignment tool keep the disc centered while I was bolting up the pressure plate in the next picture.
http://www.gastiresoil.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=88&stc=1&d=1249183171
In this picture the pressure plate is bolted up. It was bolted up as well with GM fasteners and torqued in the supplied pattern in a three set torque sequence of 20-40-52ft/lbs using red loctite. If there is any play in the alignment tool be sure not to let it sag while you are bolting down the pressure plate or you will have an extremely difficult time stabbing your transmission when it comes time, if you can get it in at all. Be sure to clean the face of the pressure plate with brake clean before assembly.

This last pic is of the clutch assembly completely bolted in and with my quicktime bellhousing installed.

Well, with a little help from HRJ to help me stab the transmission, it is now in and bolted up. Thanks Joe! The installation was fairly straight forward and it slid basicly right into place witout a fight. If I would have cleaned the powder coating out of the alignment holes it would have been even easier. After a bit of tidying up with some zipties the wiring was pluged in and the O2 sensors were hooked up. Here are a few pics of the transmission bolted up to the Quicktime bellhousing. I still have to bleed the clutch so ignore the remote bleeder hanging down. It will be ziptied away once I get in a few more parts.

Not sure if it can be seen well here or not but I also covered the stainless steel clutch lines and remote bleeder that I got from Classic Tube with DEI heat shielding. I am doing everything I can to keep the fluid from being overheated. I will also be using NAPA brand DOT 5.1 brake fluid PN# 51-012 in my clutch system. It has a minimum boiling point of 500~ Fahrenheit and can be had a the local parts store for about $7 for a 12oz. bottle.

I am waiting on a few more parts that I should be getting in soon from Chris @ GForce 1320 one of our site sponsors to the left. He is sending me one of his carbon fiber drive shafts and a Harrop rear differential cover. I am only waiting on the drive shaft so that I can get the GTO on the ground and start breaking in my clutch. Once the clutch is broken in then the cover should be in by then.

Well while I have been waiting on my CF drive shaft from G-Force to come in I figured I would remedy my issues with my GMM Race shifter. The only thing I didn't like about it was that I always hit the radio when going into 3rd with my knuckles... always, and the fact that I hate short sticks. I love the short throws of the shifter, just not the low shifting position. Second, I am going to be installing a Lingenfelter launch controller later on and will be needing a shift ball with a button.
I had an idea using an old F-body Hurst stick I had lying around along with me making an adapter to bolt to the GMM shifter body. I then used my old GMM shifter to make a template and decide on how far back I would lean the shifter so that I am no longer banging into the radio. Here's a pic.
http://www.gastiresoil.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=179&stc=1&d=1250277255
Then I used a jig saw and cut out the design from some scrap flat iron I got from a local fab shop. They just gave it to me it was such a small amount. I then drilled all 4 holes and tapped the two top holes that the Hurst shifter would mount to. I proceeded to check fitment before final assembly.
http://www.gastiresoil.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=166&stc=1&d=1250105332
I then mounted it to the GMM base using the old GMM bolts and locktite and then mounted the Hurst shifter to the fabricated piece with locktite and some 12 point nuts for backup from the broken twin disc clutch I pulled out. They just happened to be the right threads.
http://www.gastiresoil.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=165&stc=1&d=1250105749
Using a firewall grommet I slid over the Hurst shifter I then was able to use a zip tie like the factory used to hold on my shifter boot.

Alright, I finally got everything in. I had to do a little cutting and grinding but everything fit with plenty of clearance. This setup is absolutely beautiful, and when I took my first drive it was silky smooth. Once the clutch is broken in I'll give some more updates on some heavy clutch drops at the track. Here is a pic of the diff with the factory yoke pulled off.

Here is the factory floor section that needs to be modified. I don't know what that tab is between the seat belt bolts and bracket for the emergency brake cables but it did not have anything on it and was sticking down further than anything else.
http://www.gastiresoil.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=182&stc=1&d=1250392750
That tab was easily removed with a little prying and the seat belt bolts were removed and cut down to length and reinstalled. It took about 15 minutes. I used a little paint and undercoating to protect from corrosion. Here are a couple pics of the yoke and of the floor pan where the bolts were cut down and the tab was removed.

The yoke was installed by tightening the nut while wiggling it back and forth until all slack was removed. Once I was satisfied all slack was removed I then tightened 1/4 turn onto the crush sleeve. I used red locktite on the nut. Then the drive shaft was installed using the supplied Spicer U-joint straps. Here are a few more of the yoke with the E-Coat coating and the installed carbon fiber drive shaft.

Got a about 300 miles on the clutch now with zero issues. It's still engaging smoothly w/no perceptible chatter.I also have a little update on the Carbon Fiber Driveshaft: So far it has been silky smooth. No vibration and there is no additional harshness from the solid driveline. I do like the additional feedback from the shifter coming through the shaft, you can feel what is going on in the rear. It's not obtrusive at all, but now I can tell if the tires are about to break loose or if the diff. is locked or not. It definitely makes it easier to shift and to make a smoother transition during shifting while cruising. My wife has commented on how much more precise the shifting is and about the smooth shifts as well. No more bouncing because of the loading and unloading of the rubber isolators. I have slowly sped it up to 120 and the shaft is much quieter and smoother than the stock shaft was. No more of that annoying hum coming from the stock shaft when I got over 100. So far I am loving it. I'll post up more when I really get a chance to abuse it. If my initial impressions mean anything, I think this is one of the best mods yet.

I had no idea my feet were in the danger zone on a modded GTO... I will keep that in mind later on when I am pushing the amount of power you are and I will thank you for not losing a foot.
I hope to get a chance to see you run down in Baytown sometime in the near future... I have a few things I have to get before I will run the Goat on the track...
I cant screw up my nice Michelin Pilot Sport A/S at the track so I am just waiting for a few goodies. Planning on grabbing some 15" bmw wheels, MT's and SS clutch lines before I start putting the hammer down on the track. Oh ****... duh and a helmet lol the most important part of all.

LOL, Thanks... Well lets see...
It won't be anytime soon.
I just broke my transmission AGAIN.
Lets see... Stock trans got taken out by an RPS Carbon-Carbon Explosion along with the bell housing.
2nd transmission got blown along with my bellhousing, tail shaft, tail shaft housing, bell housing, and oil pan by the straps breaking on a Ram Twin.
3rd transmission is now limped and will not go over 140 without feeling like it is coming through the floor. The main shaft is bent and has a critical speed issue. The transmission as it stands is basically being overpowered by my heavy right foot and this heavy turd we call a GTO.
On to the the 4th transmission with a Viper main shaft and upgraded internals. I'll be honest though... The devil on my back is saying go auto for reliability, but what fun would that be.
I will be driving it to a couple local shows until my next transmission is built, just a little slower.

I then ordered a shifter ball for now from Summit until I can figure out which ball I want to use with the launch controller. The part number for this shifter ball without the Hurst logo is 163-0140 and is a 3/8-16 thread.

Here are the final pics of it installed after I blew it all apart and painted the piece I made to protect it against corrosion. Sorry the lighting is weird, it looks much better in person. Sucks having a cheap camera. LOL

Now that everything is done, here is my final review of the G-Force CF driveshaft and Monster Stage 6 Clutch. When I first got everything back together after my clutch and carbon fiber DS install everything was great during break in. Nice smooth shifts and zero vibrations. After breaking in the clutch I went on a little fun run here in Mexico and at anything over 140mph I had a horrible vibration. The vibration was so bad that the car could not even power on past 145. It was extremely disappointing. I made numerous calls back and forth with Chris (G-Force 1320) and just could not figure out the issue. I then called and spoke to Steve (Monster Clutch Co.). He was great to talk to and he knew exactly what I was talking about. He told me to speak to Bill (WRP) as he had a similar issue, so I called him up. Bill told me about the issues he had and I told him of the numerous transmissions I had been through and he said he was confident the tail shaft was under heavy loads do to our vehicle and drivetrain design. He said his transmission was the cause of his vibration and that it was only noticed when he switched to a one piece do to the stock drive shaft's rubber isolators masking the problem. So, I pulled my transmission (again) and sent it to a local transmission shop for a basic rebuild. Sure enough the mainshaft was bent, the tailshaft bushing was wore HEAVILY, and the bearings were pretty much toast. The vibration was due to a critical speed issue in the transmission due to the bent mainshaft. After the rebuild and a little drive time to break in the new transmission I went out to do my first high speed test. I found an isolated road in Mexico and took it up to just a tick over 160. Zero vibration, it feels absolutely perfect and was still pulling hard when I let out of it. The feeling of a smooth drivetrain is great. Thanks Bill for your help in diagnosing the issue, as well as Chris and Steve for being patient and speaking to me over the phone while I figured out what was going on.

Awesome man glad you got things worked out and shes running smooth.
Good gosh I am great. Did any of you guys know Lazerus? I helped him out of a jam. I think my biggest act was getting ole Pharoh to let my people go.....I have to admit I cheated on the staff trick. Then there was a C5 Z06....that was a true miracle. I can never quite get the one about breaking the fish in half and feeding everyone though. I will confess I have watered down a lot of white whiskey and sold it, sort of like turning water to wine or vice versa.
In all sincereity, the walls of Jericho were Ethyl's fault!!!
