No need to mini tub, Just use a BFH.. I easily tucked 15 x 10's w/ 8" bs on mine..
There is plenty of fender room, its to the point where the notched a-arm and shock
are in the way.

The wheels are up there but the car is with me. Don't have time to just bring my car up there and leave it for a couple of weeks.

So if I notch the arm and space the shock...How wide of a tire can I get back there with just a BFH on the wheel wells? 305? 315?
I'm going to have to do something, that's fo sho. And this sounds like a good winter project.

I can say that the wheel well should be the least of your worries..
Figure out how to get shock and a-arm clearance first..
My clearances right now are approx..:
1/4" between tire and shock - this being with the shock dust cover being cut off.
3/4" between the tire and notched A-arm
1 1/2" between the tire and inner fender well.
Not the greatest picture but to give you a better idea..
On the left is a 275/40/17 on a factory rim..
On the right is a 275/50/15 on a 10" rim.. After the simple mods without mini tubbing the tire on the right completely tucks under the car..

you need to do a writeup on here, dead serious I've always wanted wider tires once my stockers bald out (yes im still on the stocker bfgs lol) and other than notching the arm it sounds pretty reasonable and maybe even notching the arm is, do a writeup :D

There is a very good write-up on the other site about this.. Would just rather not
post the link.
I know many others have done the same thing and are also tucking the 10" rim
and I wish I had more photos from looking behind the car but i don't, maybe I will snap a few tonight.

Slowgoat you are talking about 275s where talking minitub so we can fit 315s. It's a big difference. Your info is very good and helpfull though.

275's without the cost of a minitub is really helpful for a lot of people though. Time to do some research.

What I am getting at is that mini tubbing is not going to help you as much as you may think.. You have bigger clearance problems when it comes to the a-arm and the shock tower than you do with the fender well.
I would have no prob. fitting a 315 in the fenderwell the way it is right now without mini-tubbing..
And I am assuming that wanting to fit a wider tire under your car is for looks only ??

You got me! Do you really think I'm doing this just for looks! If that was the case I would just get the 19s widened instead of both the 17s and 19s. If you knew me you would know my plans and not question me getting a minitub! I'm just getting this done first so I don't look like a dumass with all this power and no traction!

Not questioning you at all.. We are over 950rwhp and have no issues
with traction.. Been in the low 1.4 60ft. times often. I guess if your building something bigger and badder than good luck to you and you may want to look in to a solid rear.

I have some mini tub photo's I'll throw up. It's a bit extreme but the seats still fit (barely) and a 325 radial will fit with ease.
This is done with our modified control arm (tubular outer and hiem joint) mini tub kit and coil over kit.
We have billet shock spacers available as well.

we dont use a BFH when we do them, we move the wheels wells in, and then notch the a arm and space the shock, also have to remove some of the wheel well with some wheels. we can normally get a 305-315 back there

The rubbed a tiny bit before with the BFH treatment on the inside.

Sooooo... Your saying that you cut a 1.4 60ft with over 950rwhp and only run a 10.51? That's funny cuz a guy here has only 500rwhp cuts a 1.6 and will run a 10.9 and it weighs 3850lbs without him in it!
Are you towing another GTO behide you? Is your car just not running good or are you just spinning after you do that shot of NOS.
Just asking?:D

Since I'll have a few hundred extra horses under the hood I figured I could throw the back seats back in.
The chassis guys bent the hell out of the wire frame on the seats fitting the cage so I have to buy another seat :(

Ok your a sponsor now, so what kinda cost are we looking at for getting a setup like yours? My GOAT has become more of a weekend/trip/track car(more Autocross than Drag), so what I am wanting is to maintain the 18/19 inch rim but still get as wide a tire as possible with the back seats still intact.

If your asking about our kit, here is the break down. We dont do the mini tub job though.
The modified control arms are $520. complete with heavy duty hiem joints and bushing spacers to locate it.
The control arms are all modified in a jig to insure a perfect fit.
That price is if you send a set of control arms to exchange, core charge will be $350. if you dont have a set for us to modify.
The coil over kits are $200. (does not include coil overs)
A set of Strange Engineering double adjustable coil overs and springs will run you $660.
The wheel tubs that are pre-cut to the ones we used are $149. this will give you a big head start when doing your mini tub job.
We dont do the mini tub jobs, we only sell the parts. It's all a bolt on deal except for the mini tub part.
