Yeah I found that awhile back and thanks to that I stopped using FRAM filters. Never knew they were such huge flying pieces of crap.

I assume this is to hold the Teflon particles in the filter element before the unit is installed. Don't put Teflon in your engine. It does not belong there! DuPont does not recommend using their Teflon product in internal combustion engines.

Saw this a little bit ago.

The Amsoil filters are great filters, and when you are a preferred customer, they are rather affordable.

At least the Mobil 1 is a recommended filter. I might just look for a cheaper one that is also on the list.

Thanks for posting this! Very eye opening. IMHO, the filter is a VERY important part of the oil system, and a few extra bucks are well worth it.

Great info, thanks OP. Looks like I'll be sticking with my Mobil 1 filters, I usually pick up a few when they have a buy oil and get filter free deal. I didn't know the truth about Fram until 100 miles after I had put one on the goat...that'll make your butt pucker!

Does anyone know what the P/N for the larger Mobil1 filter we can use is?

The larger capacity Mobil1 part number is M1-206.

This thread is great, I read it a while back and tried to explain to my friend why he shouldnt be using a fram. He doesnt believe me but maybe I can get him to read this and change his ways...

Well if he doesn't believe you tell him to go to his local napa store and look at the display we have of a fram filter (their top of the line one too btw) cut in half so you can see how it's put together. That should hopefully help
