04/05 Tinted tails?

Anybody got pix of their tails tinted/smoked? I'm thinking of going the smoked route, but not sure how they'd turn out. I was real into the 06 tails, but I strayed from it.

What kinda tint setup is that? I want to go with a similar look, but not sure about going that dark. :cool: I also want to leave out the turn/reverse signals. I think it looks awesome on your car! About how much did that cost ya?

I had a buddy of mine do it. He normally charges like 80, but I didnt give him that. I could have done it myself but I wanted to help him out.

It is just VHT niteshade. Mine has 3 coats. Wetsanded between each one. We taped off the reverse lights then slowly cut around it with a razor blade.

if you want the reverse and blinkers to remain clear and the rest tinted, the best stuff to use is a masking agent, you can find that at most hobby stores.

its really simple to use, you just 'paint' it on with a brush (i actually used my finger) it spreads like a glue would.
you cover the entire area, spilling over a little is fine... then you xacto the edges to get that perfect circle.

VHT over the whole thing, get everything the way you want it then peel it off like a sticker when youre done!

Just use nightshade... If it is too dark you can wetsand it down.

Just use nightshade... If it is too dark you can wetsand it down.

Ha! Nice! If I had a PBM, I would definitely be going darker, but I just want something to wipe out the red. Plus, I like the look of the circular signals. Thinking about going VX, as well. Still unsure.

Man, that looks awesome! I still keep putting off the tinting, but I'm really leaning towards getting it done. If I don't like it, I'll just sell 'em and get 06 tails. I'm worried it won't go well on my QSM, since not much else is black.

I want some 06 tails but I'm not gonna pay 400 bucks for them, and it seems like people aren't trying to sell them anymore. I'll probably just get my tails tinted like the ones I had before.

The guy I sold them to has a QSM, and I think they look good with that color. Black wheels would make them look better though.

Anything over the lights I illegal. Although some cops may not pull you over, or ticket you doesn't make it legal. I work with a couple cops and all of them said it is illegal. I was thinking about doing it myself. I guess its just one of those things that if they want to pull you over they can because of your lights.

Yea it basically depends on the cop. You could drive by 20 cops, and 19 of them wouldn't pull you over. But one of them could. I do know some cops that wouldn't pull someone over for the tails being tinted. I also know some cops that can't stand them, and would love to pull you over.

I haven't installed it, yet. I want to wait until I can afford to get the car touched up, then have the bumper installed/repainted and have the inserts installed/painted. I wasn't thinking of an exhaust system too drastic. Just maybe an H-pipe, and mufflers. Further down the road I'll get the full exhaust.

Just a few nicks, chips, and scuffs here and there. I wanted to have the car painted, and have the bumper installed along with that.

I feel ya on sleep. I get 2 - 3 per night. Not becaue of anything in particular, but I think I have some sort of insomnia...

I like the sound, but I don't want it ALL that loud. I'm more of a rumble kinda guy. Like I always say: I hate mustangs, but they always sound good.

Yea GTOwhat and I both have Corsa Sport, Kooks LT's, and catless mids.. And its loud! But if you do go with catted mids it wont be that loud. I love the sound of our set up.

Meh everyone does Corsas. Don't get me wrong they look great, they're just a little too raspy for my taste. I like a deeper, throatier sound. But that's what makes this country great, the right to choose. LOL

i really like that. not all the way blacked out. Looks like light tint around the sides, but left the brake and rev. and turn, alone. Right? Looks good.. Another idea i might try..

thanx, it is pretty dark around edges, camera flash mabey lightens it up. i masked over turn rev., sanded over brake i was going for more of a feathered look but turned out pretty good. hours of wet sanding. see ya Mark G.
