View Full Version : Going to have to get rid of my GTO and other stuff :(

Well, I've kind of fallen on some bad times. Been diagnosed with prostate cancer. I'm lucky in that it has not spread anywhere else yet, and I've started treatment at MD Anderson in Houston. Unfortunately, the FAA says I can't fly until I'm cured. My income right now is 0 until the paperwork is done for disability insurance, which is a whopping $200.00 a week! so to survive until I get back on flight status, my GTO, GMC 3500 Dually, and 37' 5th wheel will have to go.

As most of you know, I just put new Kooks stepped headers and a fast 92 intake with ported TB on the GTO. I'm thinking it might be best to remove them, and put her back to stock, since that won't add anything to the price I could get for her, then sell those parts. My plan is to then trade in the GTO for a used SUV, since I still owe the bank for her. The truck is paid off, so I'll be selling it outright, and the 5th wheel will be on consignment at PPL Motorhomes in Houston. I figure this should give me enough reduction in cash outflow, and cash in hand to get me through this rough spot.

So if you know anyone who might be interested in the Kooks stepped headers, ported Fast 92 intake, and ported TB, or a 2004 GMC 3500 Dually SLT Duramax/Alison with 58k miles, let me know. I plan to take my 5th wheel down to Houston next week, then get the truck detailed and put it on the market. As far as the GTO parts, I'll have to get them removed, and the stock items put back on, hopefully within the next couple of weeks. I could really use some help with this. Any ideas? Thanks guys and gals.

Very sorry to hear this Doug and I wish you the best of luck in this tough time for you. My grandfather had prostate cancer for many years and MD Anderson is who treated him. They did a great job treating him and sent the prostate cancer into remission for years. MD Anderson is the best place you could go for your treatment and I hope everything goes well for you.

Doug if you decide to de-mod let me know. I will help you remove the parts and put it back to stock. That really sucks to hear about, you are a good guy and it sucks when bad things happen to good people.

how much are you asking for the FAST intake with TB?

Thanks for the kind words guys. One word of advice from a old F**T, go to the Dr. and get a PSA test done every couple of years. The earlier you find out you have this crap, the better.

I'm still trying to figure out any way I can keep my GTO, and still be able to make it through until I can get back to work. I really do not want to sell her, but from the looks of things I may have to. I'm looking at several options.

Thank you Ed, for the kind offer. I'll take you up on that if I have to sell the GTO. If things work out right, maybe we could have a removal and installation party at the same time!

Stay tuned guys, I'll have everything figured out within a week.

Doug, you're in our prayers. If you do decide to get rid of the GTO, I have a buddy in League City that might be interested. He's in the market and almost bought a CGM off a BMW lot a couple weeks ago. The car was gone when he went back to talk numbers. He's a car guy and takes good care of his machines.

Thanks RoboFuzz. Really appreciate the prayers. I'll let you know something soon. He sounds like the kind of guy I'd like to see end up with my Baby.

Thanks EddieZ999. I'm working with a Dr. Quynh-Nhu Nguyen at MD Anderson.

I'll ask my Dad if he knows him. Do you feel confident with that doctor? Be lucky that you live close to here b/c MD Anderson is the best Cancer center in the world as everyone already knows. My bro had Leukemia 20 years ago and he had 1 - 50 chance but he made it and is a friggin genius. The apple fell far from the tree with me...heh.

Update.
Going over to Lancers house today to do the demod. Lancer has been a great friend, and has volunteered his time and garage to help me out. I have the intake and T/B sold and they will come off my car tonight, and be installed on the buyers car tonight also. The headers and mids may be sold. I just have to send him pictures after we get them removed. Hoping they will be picked up this weekend. Looks like I'm trading my GTO in at Covert Cadillac. Of course on a trade in, I'm not going to get what I'd like to get, but am going to have to do it. The Truck will be detailed this weekend, and I'll be taking it to Carmax to see what they will give me for it. Then I'll make the decision whether I want to try to sell it on the open market, or sell it to them.

Thanks for all the kind words and deeds from all my brothers and sisters here on GasTiresOil.com. Y'all are the best.

Big props to Lancer. Were still here working on Youngguns350's car. Still installing the Kooks headers, catted mids, and SLP LM1. I got to Lancers house with Blackest SRT around 9pm, and we've been going since. Well they've been going since than and i've been here for moral support. Lmao. Thanks again Doug!!

Don't sweat it Doug, you are always part of the group. Luckily for you the Goats keep getting cheaper so when you are ready you can pick up another pretty cheap.

Carmax offered 14K, but got 15K on the trade in at Covert. Hope she goes to a good owner. Yeah Lancer, maybe when things get all better for me, I'll be able to get another one. I hope when the time comes I'll find one as sweet as this one was. I'll be seeing y'all at meets and hopefully Goatfest. Even if I don't have one any more, I still feel like one of the herd! :) Lancer, I have something coming for you, and it should be here soon. I'll PM ya.

Yes I sure did. It's nice, and helps make up for not having the Goat any longer. But not completely!

Hi cadvilla,
Welcome to the Herd! Please don't feel bad about buying her. I'm glad she's going to have a good home :) You should not need to do anything to the exterior for awhile. I had falcon detailing work their magic on her before I traded her in. The only mod she has right now is the resonator was removed before I bought her. Other than that she's stock. She may look lowered because she has a little rear end sag, which happens to these Goats. Replace the rear springs, and she'll be back to where she should be. I never took her to the track. As a matter of fact I only put about 1200 miles on her while I had her. You have gotten yourself a great Goat! How much did you end up paying for her? Enjoy :)
Doug

Wow, I am many months behind.
Doug,
I hope you get well soon and back to work. It's a bitch to hear you had to get rid of the GTO. I still remember seeing the exhaust getting put on right now like it was last week.
Take care and pop in every little bit to let us know how things are working out.
