Well, I think my kooks are rubbing against the driver side diagonal brace and/or the studs that hold it on. Is there an easy way to shift the engine slightly to the passenger side? There's a whole lot more room between the header and the bracket over there... grrrrr

Just take the brackets off and cut the studs.

You can do this without removing the headers.

Yeah I left the bracket off on the driver's side when I did my headers. I won't pretend to completely know what is happening and if my car is impacted in any way but I have had my headers for almost a year with no known adverse effects of just pulling the bracket out.

I think almost all GTOs with headers don't have those brackets. There is nothing structural about them.

What are they for then? :)

+1 But I should take them off. Weight savings yo. That's like 1 pound.
If I'm thinking of the right piece.

just go use the bathroom before you go race, i'm sure you can lose a pound that way. i still have mine and it rubs very little. i need to cut the stud.

I've had mine off for a while now as well. They are definitely not structural. To me they seem to be for metal directing during a crash to force the frame rails out instead of in and be directed into the passenger cabin. Just my .02

I have left the brackets on, on all 4 installs I have done. No problems with any of them. I did trim the one stud on the left side though.

I also trimmed my drivers side studs for my install. Couple minutes with the hack saw and bye bye extra threads. Don't have a lot of clearance but it doesn't rub with my Kooks SS.

i believe the braces are for assembly purposes. Nothing structural.
