Police currently can only warn people who stay behind that they won't have emergency vehicles to help them, but that will change on Sept. 1.
The new law will allow police to arrest people who refuse to evacuate. County judges and mayor could also authorize the use of reasonable force to remove people from an area under a mandatory evacuation.
Besides hurricanes, the law also applies to other disasters like floods and fires.
This is getting ridicules. Our law system is getting too far to the left with "Gig Government". I can't even make my own decisions anymore.

Just another way they can control people. If you want to stay you should be able too at your own risk. The big problem is the people that do stay that are unprepared for an epic disaster.

I want to agree with you guys, but there are some really stupid people out there, and unfortunately, those policemen are on the hook to save their dumb asses if they get into trouble. I think if the officers have to risk their lives, they should have latitude to prevent it getting to that point... in certain extreme cases.

Yah, and I'm all about "personal responsibility"... They should re-write the law to say "if you want to stay, your ass is on your own if the **** hits the fan."
I wouldn't mind that at all.. the real Texans will be prepared and will be just fine. The other folks? Not much confidence in them.

I am completely against it. Please e-mail your area reps. in regards to this law. We are slowly but surly loosing our rights in this country. This law is all about loosing control of your ability to make decisions for yourself on your on property. Here is the link to find your area representatives: http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/

This law is being written because of the dumbasses who stayed behind during the hurricane last year and died on the island. I'm for it in some cases.

First of all I have been saying for years....we are legislating away DARWIN!
If you don't want to leave and you are in the path...well then know that you are gonna likely die.
If you don't want to leave and you are near...make sure you are well prepared and you still might die.
In the end...it is up to individuals not the goverment.
They already provide aid and other services last in those areas...people who have ridden out hurricaines in low lying areas for generations know what it takes to be prepared and should be allowed to do so.

If the people riding out the hurricane's are fully prepaired they won't be the problem. They end up treating it as a temp vacation from work. Especially if they don't have any damages to their home just no electricity.
It's the people that call 911 begging for a rescue during the hurricane that jeapordize their lives and the lives of the 1st responders (Fire/Medical/Police Rescue Teams). So if someone believe they can ride out a hurricane but dosen't even have a weeks to 2 weeks worth of supplies shouldn't be complaining about what happens to them OR complain about hurricane relief supplies aren't readily available to them.
Oh and FYI. If your house has no damage but has running water, a fuctional bathroom but no electricity after a hurricane. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET REIMBURSED FOR HOTEL EXPENSES B/C YOU CHOSE TO STAY THEIR INSTEAD OF YOUR HOME. The definition of an unsafe home: means that ALL UTILITIES MUST BE OUT (PLUS HAVE DAMAGES) TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR HOTEL EXPENSES REIMBURSMENT or TEMPORARY RENTAL ASSISTANCE.
Example: You have a 4 bedroom house 2 of which are occupado, the 2 spare bedroom/office/converted den are damaged but the 2 occupied rooms are unharmed. You will not recieve Govt assistance to relocate to a temp location while repairs are being made...UNLESS you get a statement from the contractor explaining why you can't stay in your own home during rebuilding construction.
Thanks to the 4 Florida Hurricanes of 2004 and the Greediness brought on by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. It's now harder to get Gov Grant Assistance than it is to get on welfare!!! just a little useless trivia for ya!

Something to think about.
Political language... is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.

Yea that's pretty stupid. What they should do is just let ppl stay behind if they want to but let them knos if s**t hits the fan there will be no help at all what so ever. What's next, refuse to vote go to jail.
