View Full Version : Help! What Drag Tires Do I Need?

Ok, I am at 612rwhp and 510tq and at the east-coast shootout this weekend my best time was a 12.37 at 119mph and my 60' 2.098. This time was on the factory 18's.
Now what I am looking for is a rear wheel and tire that's not going to break the bank but get me deep into the 11's with out wheel hopping and spinning so much. I was thinking about getting some factory 17's and putting some M/T drag radials on them. So what do you guys think? And what size is working for you? I have drag bags and cutting the fender isn't a problem.

Being a m6 you need to go with the MT Et streets bias ply. They will help with wheel hop. And you can put them on your stock 17s

I already said my piece Kyle. 275/40 MT DR's on stock 17's :)
OR, you could even do the 265/40 MT DR's on your 18's. I think the 275/40's would hook a little better though.

Thanks Daniel, Where do you guys buy them from?
Matt I am going to pick up two 17's just for the track, I can't dirty up my 18's. :D
Anybody wanna sell 2 17's for cheap!? I don't care about how they look as long as they aren't bent.

That yellow goat from NC was on 245/40/18's and he was HOOKING.

Just seen that, but I want some more sidewall to help with the hop-pity hop lol :gr_jest:

Best bet is probably a 16x8 f-body wheel and ET Street Bias ply 26x10.5/16. Do not get a drag radial for an M6. The radial's sidewall is to hard and will not help with driveline shock like a 16" bias ply will. With that combo and koni shocks, drag bags, and king springs I have no wheel hop at the strip. Making a less power than you but it will be better than a DR.

Do you know what f-body wheels fit? I'm going crazy trying to find a wheel that looks half way good and is cheap lol.

With your setup I would get some 15in. Weld draglites, and some MT ET streets.

Mine are actually on my 17's, and they haven't seen the track yet, but they are sticky as hell. 1st gear 30 mph punch, and the rear end doesn't get sideways at all, it just tucks, and goes.

I have read that you need to notch the control arm and use a bfh on the inner fender well. If you get a 15x8 with the right tire you will hook.

The shipping weight is 20lbs... Now I will find out Sat. if they are going to fit. Then I have to choose between a good deal on a pair of 15inch bmw wheels or these...

Just found that the stock wheels are around 30lbs a piece. So I should save a little weight with the summit wheels.

I know they will fit they are a 5-4.75 bolt pattern and 5.5inch backspacing. I'm not going to have them until Christmas time (the GF is buying me the rims lol) They will just stick out 1.5inch. If you have drag bags you wont have any problems with the 15x8's.

Hmm guess I need to buy drag bags. What size tire will you be running? 275/65/15?

I'm not sure If I can fit a 65, I plan on running a 275-50-15. I'm still doing some research on that lol.

I would think on a 15in wheel, a 60 sidewall should fit.

The Toyo TQ is an excellent drag tire. It is special order, not on the site.
