I have no idea... But did you know there was a GTO in Transformers? I also heard that the Camaro wasn't even a Camaro, it was a GTO.

Actually, me and Josh might be building a ram air intake. I will make a thread shortly to see what we can come up with.

I'll stick with a Volant + IAT relocate. I just love the look of the Volant.

I want a svede or the one they have here

Mickey21 lives over there and they only want like 150 USD for them. We're going to see him next year and I think I might take one back with me. Untill then I am going to build a intakehoses.com Hardcore intake.

Do the one that has a supercharger in between the filter and the throttle body....i think its made by procharger....lol
BumbleBeeGTO
07-27-2009, 03:16 PM
Why is that?
Because if the IAT is reading cooler IAT's than what the air actually is, It wont pull timing out and you will get KR.
05ls7gto
07-27-2009, 03:22 PM
Well I would put the IAT right into the air filter just like what many other people are running.

I just use a paper towel tube and have dog sh*t for the filter.

Anyone got pics and info on a hardcore for '05/'06 ?
With your cam, headers, and intake I think you should consider the SNL 4" MAF with a custom CAI. There are two ways to mount the MAF. Either with the Svede1212 OTRCAI or with the SNL custom fitted solution.
Here is the Svede1212 solution

Just take a couple more components to make it a Hardcore style. BTW that is the same setup Scot254 is running.

The SNL is interesting... I've already got a couple hundred invested in parts for a home-brewed hardcore. Grrrrrrr. I'll ask about theirs tomorrow.

I'll ask about theirs tomorrow.Check it closely, all you will have to do is extend the end with the filter through an elbow and a downpipe, that is one piece of silicon and an aluminum tube with the holesaw cut in the fender base. I think Steve did something like that for Bassaholic. What color is your GTO?

Dirty dirty black. Hopefully clean black next week after the cam install. Gotta get me some tint too... I think it was completely stock except for the oil & air up until about 6 weeks ago. Now I think I'm mod-crazy. :D

what do they (and the 4" MAF) run ? Just did the omega mod to my stock intake tract... and going to run some errands. Mebbe it'll be a smidge more responsive after it gets hot? We'll see. :)

The SNL CAI and MAF netted me 20 HP :hail: over the stock airbox, air tube and MAF with my cam/headers/intake. It sold me and I bought one!
The best is one that beats heat soak ... and that would a OTRCAI. Mines from svede1212 and it is far superior to having an elbow type CAI.

The setup sure lets plenty of air in. Especially with big cubes, there is no choking.

for a CAI and a catback exhaust..
Wonder how much I am set to gain.. even though i wouyld rather do a complete CAi - headers - exhaust and a tune.

Without a tune you leave power on the table. I felt a little SOTP with my catback, but not a lot. The sound is why I picked it, more than power. I'm betting that the stock airbox isn't a serious restriction with only a catback... your engine just won't breathe enough to need too much more than that until you do some other mods.

I've done a lot of research, and IMHO the Vararam seems to be the best aftermarket CAI for the GTO. I should be installing one soon.
http://www.vararam.com/sdr.html
We've seen some pretty good gains with the SNL unit. The MAF stays usable and there is not a reduction or restriction in the airflow package like others have. Teamed with the SNL ported and polished TB and a ported manifold we've seen up to 30 whp gain with around 15 rwtq on a heads and cam car, less on more stock vehicles. I think Corndog picked up 25/15 with just headers and a poor tune.

We've also had good success working with the Svede1212 OTRCAI that was adapted for the 4 inch MAF

I've gotta go with the Vararam for 05-06s. I switched from an LPE intake to the vararam, and have much lower overall IATs than I used to.

Svede OTRCAI is awesome and probably works even better the vararam if you can get one. Great quality work...
Vararam is awesome though... the fact that its a straight shot from the filter where the air is coming in straight into the TB and intake manifold is what makes it better then all those other "Hot" air intakes. Dont mean to push any buttons when it comes to this... I am not saying that most aftermarket CAI's dont do anything and that you dont benefit. Vararam just seems more efficient especially at higher speeds. It also is proven to drop tempertures faster from a traffic light. It doesnt really help the temperture too much while just sitting still over regular CAI's.
